POSITION:                             Loan Fund Development Specialist VISTA

REPORTS TO:                       Loan Officer

About Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement

Founded in 2001, CNHA is a national Native Hawaiian advocacy and intermediary nonprofit, with a mission of enhancing the cultural, economic, political and community development of Native Hawaiians.  It is certified by the U.S. Treasury as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), and by HUD as a certified housing counseling agency.

CNHA delivers loans through its Loan Fund, fund raising assistance through its Hawaiian Way Fund initiative, Capacity Building services through the provision of training and technical assistance to Native Hawaiian community organizations, and public policy advocacy under its Policy Center including civic engagement programming.  Annually, CNHA hosts one of the largest Native Hawaiian conferences, to bring community leaders, policy makers and experts in the many fields of community development together.   CNHA is partnering in the HCA AmeriCorps VISTA program, to fill a position that is focused specifically in the loan fund division of CNHA.

Position Duties

The Loan Fund Development Specialist VISTA position is a one-year, full-time volunteer position located in Kapolei, O‘ahu and will be working alongside the Loan Officer. AmeriCorps VISTAs commit to a yearlong (365 days) term of service within the organization they serve. Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Research online and local loan and housing markets as it relates to CNHA’s product offerings, including research and development of diversified loan products.
  • Develop a marketing and communications plan, create and/or update marketing material and identify opportunities for outreach, resources, partnerships, and referrals.
  • Assist in loan product development based on community needs.
  • Create a data base to house collected data.
  • Create and submit grants to increase loan fund capital and technical assistance training.
  • Assess the current policies and procedures for loan fund process, identify any areas for improvement and processes that could use further development

Qualifications:

  • 18 years or older
  • U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident
  • Not listed on the National Sex Offenders Public Registry
  • Some college or college graduate
  • Willingness to work with at-risk communities
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Data management systems development and implementation a plus.
  • Comfortable with computers, proficient with Windows Office and database programs

  • Research the history of Hawaiian-based education programs to identify strengths and challenges.
  • Develop fund development guide, including grant writing, to facilitate in the sustainability of the project.
  • Create or revise policies, procedures, and documents to improve the effectiveness and sustainability of the financial capabilities program.
  • Participate in required training, orientation and community outreach with CNHA.
  • Conduct, research and update community asset mapping.
  • Increase asset development initiatives to benefit Native Hawaiian communities.
