Doe v. Kamehameha Schools Update Meetings Scheduled

A message from the KS CEO:

It has been nearly six months since the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals held its hearing of the Doe v. Kamehameha Schools appeal on November 4, 2004. No ruling on this appeal has yet been handed down, but the Court could issue its decision at any time.

Many people are interested in the latest developments regarding this case, which is a very serious challenge to Kamehameha's policy of giving preference in admissions to applicants of Hawaiian ancestry. In response to this interest, a team from Kamehameha Schools will be visiting each of our islands (twice for Hawai'i) to provide a brief update on the Doe appeal and to respond to questions about the case.

If you are interested in joining in an update, please mark your calendar for the following dates, times and places:

Molokai            April 18            6 to 7:00pm       Kulana Oiwi Halau

Oahu                April 20            6 to 7:00pm       Kalama Dining Hall, Kapalama Campus

Maui                 April 25            6 to 7:00pm       Kuakini Middle School Dining Hall

West Hawaii     April 26            6 to 7:00pm       King Kamehameha Hotel

East Hawaii      April 27            6 to 7:00pm       Keawe Middle School Dining Hall

Kauai               May 5               6 to 7:00pm       Radisson Kaua'i Beach, Hibiscus/Orchid Room

Light refreshments will be served.

The information in this presentation has already been shared with some Kamehameha Schools' faculty, staff and parent groups, and all others are welcome to attend the brief update sessions scheduled above. The update takes about 30 minutes to present, with discussion to follow.

Please pass the word about these meetings. Doe v. Kamehameha Schools is an important case for our school and for our community. Please attend one of the sessions listed above if you are interested in hearing the latest information regarding this issue.
