HAWAIIAN TELCOM SUPPORTS HAWAIIAN HOME LAND COMMUNITY ASSOCIATIONS

Lihue, HI - Hawaiian Telcom announced $10,000 of donations to two Kauai community associations serving the residents of Kekaha and Anahola.

As part of the company's philanthropic program, Hawaiian Telcom awarded a total of $20,000 to the Hawaiian Way Fund designated for the Kekaha and Anahola groups to support their grass roots service projects.  Kekaha is located on the west side of Kauai with Anahola located on the east side 10 miles north of Kapaa.

"We are honored to invest and support community organizations around the state," said Joel Matsunaga, Hawaiian Telcom Vice President – External Affairs.  "The Anahola and Kekaha community associations are exactly the kinds of groups that represent a service to others approach and we want to support that at Hawaiian Telcom."

One of the recipients, the Anahola Hawaiian Homes Association will use the Hawaiian Telcom funding to open its outdoor marketplace featuring Hawaiian crafts and lei makers from the Anahola community.  Kekaha intends to use the funds for its annual kupuna and youth programming.

"It's uplifting to have a company like Hawaiian Telcom interested in the work of our community" said Amanda Kaleiohi, President of the Anahola Hawaiian Homes Association.  "We are grateful for the funding, especially during the holiday season -- it's a great way to end the year and begin 2006 with our outdoor market place.  We really thank Hawaiian Telcom for partnering with us and our communities on Kauai.”

The donations will be made to the Hawaiian Way Fund, a community development fund administered by the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA).  Its mission is to support Hawaiian culture and knowledge for all of Hawaii by investing in community organizations that use Hawaiian ideas and approaches in the field of community development.

CNHA is a national, member-based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting community development for Native Hawaiians.  For more information about CNHA or its Hawaiian Way Fund, contact CNHA via telephone at 808.521.5011 or toll free at 800.709.2642, via e-mail at info@hawaiiancouncil.org or visit the website at www.hawaiiancouncil.org.
