Community Development

CNHA, a certified Native CDFI under U.S. Treasury guidelines, focuses on deploying capital and tax credit investments in Hawaiian communities.

  • Homestead Self Help Program: CNHA is a self help housing provider coordinating technical assistance to groups of families to build their homes together, thereby reducing the cost of their houses. Download a flyer here.
  • Homestead Energy Program – Green Lending!: Ten-year financing and grants to purchase and install residential solar water systems and compact fluorescent light bulbs on homeland trust lands. The water heater systems reduce household expenses and are environmentally-friendly. Click to download a program flyer.
  •  Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Program: The Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement facilitates volunteer training to provide free tax return filing services. The initiative helps ensure that families claim all eligible tax credits to maximize family income. Click to download a program flyer.
  • Next Generation Leadership Program: This program creates opportunities for young leaders to contribute to the mission of CNHA and to Native Hawaiian communities in a variety of ways including community development, policy efforts, training services, fundraising, and fiscal and administrative functions. •  Cultural Connections Program: Connecting cultural practitioners and artisans to the visitor industry, CNHA creates authentic interactions and economic sustainability. Download a flyer here.
