Native Hawaiian Policy Center – Policy Calls
Topic: Federal Rules for the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act
Operated by the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA), the Native Hawaiian Policy Center convenes leaders from the nonprofit, civic, homestead, social justice, education, cultural, and small business sectors to apply solutions to our community challenges. The Policy Center brings non-governmental organizations together to ensure that the energy and expertise of community leaders working directly in the field have a voice in the formation of public policy or the opportunity to fully participate.
What: Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from June 17 – July 10, 2015, the Native Hawaiian Policy Center will partner with the Sovereign Councils of the Hawaiian Home Lands Assembly (SCHHA) to hosts Policy Calls on the proposed federal rules recently published by the US Department of the Interior. Interested policy or community leaders may register to participate by dialing the Policy Center toll free number.
Policy Topic: Federal Rules on Land Exchange Procedures and Procedures to Amend the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act (HHCA) -The Policy Calls over the next three weeks are dedicated discussing the proposed federal rules and preparing community leaders to submit comments before the July 13, 2015 deadline. The rules would remove ambiguities the State of Hawaii faces in administration of the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act. Although the HHCA is a federal law, no federal rules have been promulgated for over 95 years.
