Native Nations Project

In anticipation of the passage of the Akaka Bill or a similar bill, CNHA is laying the groundwork for Native Hawaiians to make informed decisions about the reorganization of native government through policy education, training's and compiling recommendations.  By demonstrating what other native nations have done, it provides a context for the Native Hawaiian community to develop their own decision making ability about native governance. To achieve this, CNHA has partnered with the UCLA Native Nations Law & Policy Center to compile information and coordinate symposiums on key issues affecting native peoples in Hawaii, the United States and the Pacific region including Native Constitutions and Defining Citizenship. CNHA is also compiling recommendations for a federally appointed commission that will oversee the native governance structure.

Akaka Bill Enrollment Commission Recommendation Project: CNHA is compiling qualified Native Hawaiians to participate in the process of reorganizing Native Hawaiian government and by compiling  recommendations for next steps in order to empower the community.  Qualifications include expertise in Native Hawaiian genealogy and documentation and the ability to translate statistics from Native Hawaiian to English.

CNHA has also produced workbooks. These workbooks provide an overview of the Symposiums, including sponsors, partners and speakers, as well as the presentations, exercises and research.
