Ke Kumu Ho'okele : Native Hawaiian Forum & Roundtable

The Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement held its Native Hawaiian Forum on January 6, 2003, bringing together over 60 community development organizations and over 100 practitioners to brainstorm about Native Hawaiian issues and their solutions. Forum participants worked diligently to identify key issues in the areas of housing, health and human services, economic development, the environment and cultural and intellectual property rights, and education.

On January 9, 2003, CNHA convened its Roundtable with the Lingle Administration where a sampling of Monday's work was provided to the Governor, the Lt. Governor and key administration staff. 200 people representing 89 organizations serving Native Hawaiians were in attendance.

The Roundtable included an orientation on Native Hawaiian history and featured presentations from Raynard Soon, Esther Kia'aina, Hamilton McCubbin, Mahealani Kamau'u, Ku Kahakalau, Austin Nakoa and Hardy Spoehr. A keynote address was presented by Governor Linda Lingle with a closing speech by Lt. Governor James "Duke" Aiona.

The evening finished with a reception sponsored by the State Council of Hawaiian Homes Associations and a keynote address by new Hawaiian Homes Commission Chair Micah Kane.
