Social Enterprises

Social entrepreneurship is an important tool to promote the work of nonprofits and advance economic opportunities inside communities. Through our social enterprises we aim to do the following: 1. Generate jobs and economic opportunities in Hawaiian communities; 2. increase Native Hawaiian ability and remove barriers to compete and participate in a larger economy; 3. develop a steady revenue source for the Hawaiian Way Fund to support community programs.

In June of 2005, CNHA incorporated a holding company called CNHA Enterprises, Inc. wholly owned by CNHA to further the reach and job creation goals in native Hawaiian communities.  As a for profit, CNHA Enterprises operates and/or partners on a number of social enterprise initiatives that primarily impact business and economic development.

Hawaiian Homestead Technology, Inc

In 2002, CNHA created a for profit technology firm, Hawaiian Homestead Technology, Inc (HHT).  This firm is partnered with 11 federally recognized tribes and/or organizations, three that are Alaska Native and eight that are American Indian.  The collective goal is job creation in the specific technology field of document digitization in rural locations on American Indian reservation, Alaska Native villages and Hawaiian homesteads.  Since HHT is wholly owned by CNHA, all its profits are dedicated to community development support services and the Hawaiian Way Fund. Hawaiian Lending & Investments

Funded by a planning grant through the U.S. Department of Treasury, CNHA began the research and development of a business plan for a loan fund to support local small businesses and nonprofits, with a primary focus on Native Hawaiian owned and/or serving organizations.  During the 2004-2005 year, CNHA completed its feasibility study, market analysis and capitalization plan.  In progress is the development of loan policies and guidelines, as well as research efforts to identity appropriate loan software and systems.  We thank our partner consultant, 3Point Consulting, LLC, for assisting us in the development of this enterprise that hopes to bring resources to the business community.

Pueo Group Marketing

CNHA Enterprises, Inc. administers Pueo Group Marketing, an initiative that promotes the capabilities of Native Hawaiian-owned businesses to federal agencies and commercial contractors.  Our collective goals are to increase the contracting activity of Native Hawaiian and local firms in Hawaii to participate in Hawaii’s economy and to create jobs for Hawaii residents.
During 2004-2005 year, CNHA assisted in the development and submission of an application to the Small Business Administration’s Native 8(a) program to receive a Native Hawaiian Organization (NHO) designation, extending contracting tools similar to those extended to federally recognized American Tribes and Alaska Native Corporations.  Pueo Group Marketing will utilize this contracting tool for the benefit of Native Hawaiian firms by responding to Requests for Proposals, negotiating contracts and building teams of businesses to bring much needed bonding, financial resources and experiences to contracting opportunities to Hawaii.  For more information, please click here
