our purpose

The purpose of the Kahiau Community Assistance Program (KCAP) is to provide one-time emergency financial assistance (up to $1500) to Native Hawaiian beneficiaries facing hardship due to an unexpected crisis. KCAP is made possible through a grant from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and aims to provide stability for Native Hawaiians during emergency situations.

what we fund

The Kahiau Program currently funds:

  • mortgage payment

  • rent deposit

  • rent payment

  • utility services

The Kahiau Program is based on availability of funds. Due to high demand, application review may be delayed.


  • 18 years of age or older

  • Native Hawaiian

  • Resident of the state of Hawaiʻi

  • Attended a financial literacy class (temporarily waived in light of COVID-19)


  • Must be able to prove hardship around the qualifying criteria

    • Loss of employment due to layoff or debilitating illness, injury, or death

    • Other unanticipated circumstance such as impending eviction, impending termination of utility services, or similar exigent time-sensitive situation

    • Annual income must be at or below the limits outlined in the chart shown
