Calling all ‘ōpio! Are you a student interested in being more involved in the Native Hawaiian community? Do you want to make an impact and effect positive change for Native Hawaiians? Is your dream job to be a leader and major influencer within the lāhui?
The Kanaka Makua program empowers aspiring young leaders and community members to engage in the areas of Aloha ‘Āina (Government), Mālama ‘Āina (Sustainability), and ‘Oihana (Business).
The goals of this program are to:
- Educate ‘ōpio on the current efforts being made in Aloha ‘Āina, Mālama ‘Āina and ‘Oihana
- Allow ‘ōpio a voice and floor to discuss our current issues and efforts, as well as ideas for improvement, future efforts, and new ways to engage wider community participation
- Prepare ‘ōpio for future leadership through ‘ōiwi mentorship and personal feedback
- Promote pilina among aspiring ‘ōpio leaders, helping them to network among both each other and existing community leaders
Aspiring alaka‘i (leaders) ages 13-30 are encouraged to attend our launch event:
