Build Solar Energy Resiliency for your ʻOhana

Eō! With the rising cost of bills in Hawaiʻi, it’s time for our families to lessen their dependence on expensive imported fuels and generate our own power from our island sun. Locally sited, small scale, community connected, renewable energy is needed now more than ever.  We embrace the elements of aloha ‘āina to own, control and derive economic benefit from our own energy resources.

Kalāhiki is the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement’s answer to rising energy costs and the need to transition towards energy sustainability and independence. Through state of the art energy efficiency, affordable and locally generated solar energy, and storage solutions, we can help ‘ohana lower their household bills and step into greater ea.

Kalāhiki builds on CNHA’s work in financial relief, community economic development, our Solarize808 community collaboration, solar loan program, and our solar trades academy to bring cost-of-living relief through sustainable energy to low- and moderate-income and Native Hawaiian families across the pae ‘āina who have not yet fully benefited from Hawaii’s clean energy transition. Together through the Kalāhiki Coalition, we will achieve 100% clean energy for 100% of our people and bring a new day to Hawai’i.

What

A “one-stop-shop” hub for low- and moderate-income and Native Hawaiian households to access zero-money-down instant energy savings — and eventually near-zero energy bills — via energy efficiency and solar energy. By streamlining and leveraging federal, state, county, and private sector rebates, grants for loans, tax credits, and other financing, we will provide every family in Hawai’i the opportunity to achieve energy savings and sovereignty.

Why?

  • Ensure that ordinary local working families — Kama’āina and Kānaka ‘Oiwi — not just the wealthy and big businesses, benefit from Hawai‘i’s clean energy transition
  • Put Native Hawaiian and local leadership in the driver’s seat of Hawai’i’s clean energy future

CNHA’s Role

Just as we’ve worked alongside partners to provide opportunities that uplift Native Hawaiians and all people of Hawai‘i in business, workforce, and housing — and risen to the occasion to serve during the COVID-19 crisis, Maui wildfires, and the transformation of our relationship to tourism — CNHA is poised to bring local capacity and leadership to the clean energy transition in a way that benefits all of Hawai’i’s people.
